The state of Virginia offers tax credits for accessible features in homes - whether building a new unit, or retrofitting an existing home. More information on the program, including eligibility requirements, can be found here.

Homes for the Long Run: Building with Universal Design Principles
Loudoun County's Disability Services Board and the Area Agency on Aging sponsored a presentation on Universal Design principles when building or retrofitting a home. Topics covered included 3-D accessible home design and elements such as no-step entry, one-story living, wide hallways and doorways, extra floor space, and no-step showers.

Real Estate Tax Relief for the Elderly and People with Disabilities
The Loudoun County Commissioner of the Revenue offers real estate tax relief for residents who are over age 65 or totally and permanently disabled. More information is available here.
