Please note: The Housing Choice Voucher Program (formerly Section 8) is not accepting applications at this time.
If your name is currently on the wait list and you would like to check your status click Wait List Status.
Because there are more families who need rental assistance than there are funds available, LCDFS uses a waiting list to administer the program to eligible families.
Generally, when funds become available to issue a new voucher, the next family at the top of the waiting list is contacted and screened for eligibility. Once the family is determined to be eligible, the family receives a briefing to explain the program and is issued a voucher. The family then searches for a housing unit that meets their needs. A family generally has 120 days to find a housing unit.
If at the time you applied for the program you were a Loudoun County resident, you may take your voucher to any other jurisdiction outside the County. If you were not a resident of Loudoun County when you applied, you must lease a unit in the County for at least one year before you can take your voucher elsewhere.
In some cases, a family may meet certain preference requirements explained in LCDFS HCV Program Administrative Plan. In those cases, LCDFS might move those families to the top of the waiting list.
At this time the HCV wait list is currently closed. The public will be notified via, radio, Loudoun County’s website and advertising in local paper when the HCV waitlist will be reopened.
Please Note: LCDFS does not charge for applications. Please be cautious of any company or website that charges you for a HCV/Section 8 application.
