Image of Road Work Ahead SignNight Closures and Detours Planned on Dulles Greenway
November 20, 2017 - December 20, 2017

Loudoun County officials announce upcoming planned nighttime lanes closures and detours to set structural steel for the Route 772 Transit Connector Bridge on the Dulles Greenway. The work is scheduled to begin the night of Monday, November 20, 2017, and continue through Wednesday, December 20, 2017, weather permitting. Any changes to the schedule will be posted on this webpage.

The Route 772 Transit Connector Bridge will be located between Exit 6, Ashburn Village Boulevard, and Exit 7, Loudoun County Parkway, on the Dulles Greenway. The bridge will be the extension of the existing Metro Center Drive and will span the entire Dulles Greenway to provide access to the north and south Silver Line Metro Parking Garages, as well as all other infrastructure and roadways in that vicinity. The bridge will have a shared use path for pedestrian traffic, as well as north and southbound lanes for vehicular traffic.

Law enforcement personnel will be onsite during the work. Electronic signage also will be in place prior to, and during, any lane closures or detours.

Span A: The work for Span A is currently expected to take two nights beginning on the evening of November 20 to November 22 for the eastbound lanes of the Dulles Greenway.  The work for Span A will necessitate two right lane closures and intermittent 20-minute, full lane closures from 10:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m. for offloading and placement of steel girders.

Span B: The work for Span B is expected to take four nights beginning the evening of November 27, 2017, and continuing through December 1, 2017. The work is divided into three parts.

  • Part 1: November 27, 28 and 29. Span B girder placement will require the closure of the two left eastbound lanes and the right westbound lane from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

  • Part 2: November 27, 28 and 29. The work will require a full detour from 10:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m. on the eastbound lanes of the Dulles Greenway and for traffic accessing the eastbound lanes on ramps to the Dulles Greenway from Ashburn Village Boulevard and Mooreview Parkway. The detour will take all traffic from the eastbound Dulles Greenway to Exit 6 at Ashburn Village Boulevard and the traffic to the Greenway on ramps from Ashburn Village Boulevard to eastbound Shellhorn Road, and to Loudoun County Parkway. All access back to the eastbound lanes of Dulles Greenway will resume via Loudoun County Parkway. A single lane closure of the left westbound lane of the Dulles Greenway will occur from 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.

  • Part 3: November 30 and December 1. From 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., various lane closures will occur on both east and westbound lanes of the Dulles Greenway.

Span C: The work for Span C is currently expected to take three nights, beginning the evening of December 4 and continuing through December 7, 2017. The placement for the girders for Span C will require the closure of the two left westbound lanes of the Dulles Greenway from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.  From 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., the work will require a full detour of all traffic from the westbound lanes of the Dulles Greenway and traffic accessing the westbound lanes on ramps to the Dulles Greenway from Loudoun County Parkway. The detour will take all traffic from the westbound Dulles Greenway to Exit 7 at Loudoun County Parkway and on ramps from the Loudoun County Parkway to westbound Shellhorn Road and to Ashburn Village Boulevard.  All access to the westbound lanes of the Dulles Greenway will resume via Ashburn Village Boulevard.

Span A, B and C: This work will include the completion of the bolt installation and testing for all girders and cross frames and is currently expected to occur from 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., December 8 to December 20, 2017.  This work will necessitate various double lane closures (left, center, right) for the east and westbound Dulles Greenway.
