The Towns of Hamilton, Lovettsville, Middleburg, Purcellville and Round Hill will hold elections for Mayor and Town Council on Tuesday, May 1, 2018. 

Information for Citizens interested in Running for Office

Candidates running for office must meet certain requirements and file specific documents in order to appear on the ballot.  In general a candidate for office must be a citizen of the US and registered voter in the locality in which they wish to run.

Required documents are listed below and must be filed NO LATER than Tuesday, March 6, 2018, at 7:00 p.m.  Prospective candidates should read the Virginia Department of Elections Candidate Bulletin for more information, and visit the department's Candidate Forms page to download and print required forms.  Please note that as of July 1, 2017, candidate names will appear on the ballot in the order in which all required paperwork was filed.

Towns of Hamilton, Middleburg, and Round Hill;
- Certificate of Candidate Qualification
- Declaration of Candidacy

Town of Lovettsville;
- Certificate of Candidate Qualification
- Declaration of Candidacy
- Petition of Qualified Voters - 50 signatures required*

Town of Purcellville;
- Certificate of Candidate Qualification
- Declaration of Candidacy
- Petition of Qualifed Voters - 125 signatures required**
- Statement of Economic Interests***
- Statement of Organization & Campaign Finance Reports****

Notes;
* Towns with at least 1,500 voters but less than 3,500 must collect 50 signatures
** Towns with more than 3,500 voters must collect 125 signatures
*** Incumbents running for re-election file with Town Clerk, new candidates file with General Registrar
**** Only required if not currently filing campaign finance reports


Information for Voters

Polling Place: Vote at your normal polling location with the exception of the Town of Purcellville, where all voters will vote at Emerick Elementary School.

Hours: Polls will be open from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 1, 2018.

Online Voter Registration Deadline: Monday, April 9, 2018 at 11:59 p.m.  Register or update online here.

In-Person Voter Registration Deadline: Monday, April 9, 2018 at 5:00 p.m.


By-Mail Voter Registration Deadline: Postmarked no later than April 9, 2018.

Candidates Appearing on Ballot

Sample ballots will be published upon certification of candidates after the filing deadline.  Write-in candidates are allowed in all General Elections and blank lines equal to the number of open seats for any open position will be printed on the ballot.  

Absentee Voting Information

Ballots for both In-Person and By-Mail Absentee Voting are expected to be available on or about March 23, 2018.

Deadlines:
- Last day to apply to have a ballot mailed to you is Tuesday, April 24, 2018 at 5:00 p.m.
- Last day to vote an absentee ballot in person is Saturday, April 28, 2018 (office will be open 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.)
