Members of ARES operating at the Emergency Operations Center
On Saturday January 27th the Office of Emergency Management and Amateur Radio Emergency Services
personnel from Loudoun County participated in a statewide emergency communications exercise, Operation Tsunami 2018
. The simulated incident, a tsunami as the result of landslide off the coast of Africa, aimed to test auxiliary communication platforms that would be utilized in the event of a major disaster. Participants from across the Commonwealth of Virginia joined in the exercise.
Over the course of six hours ARES volunteers operated at the Emergency Operations Center and remote facilities, simulating mass care shelters for evacuees from affected areas. The exercise provided participants an opportunity to establish voice and data communication links between facilities and practice emergency communication procedures. OEM would like to thank our volunteer partners with ARES for their continued dedication and willingness to assist our operations.
