On Wednesday, April 4th 2018, the Office of Emergency Management (OEM) held a tabletop exercise on the draft Family Assistance Center (FAC) Plan. The tabletop was designed to discuss critical components of the plan prior to final endorsement from the Emergency Management Executive Committee (EMEC). Over 40 people representing several County departments, state agencies, and partners participated in the exercise. This exercise is the culmination of more than 18 months of plan development. Moving forward, after the plan is endorsed there will be a comprehensive training regimen and another exercise that will test additional components of the plan.
The FAC Plan provides guidance and direction to responsible departments and agencies on conducting FAC operations as a result of a mass casualty and/or mass fatality incident. The FAC Plan facilitates the process of identifying fatalities and survivors, reunites them with family members, and ensures the provision of emergency social services to survivors and families following the incident.
OEM would like to thank the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), Transportation Disaster Assistance (TDA) Team for providing subject matter expertise to the FAC Planning Team throughout the two-year comprehensive planning process.
OEM would also like to thank Carrie Gonzalez from the Virginia Department of Emergency Management and Paul Lupe from Fairfax Office of Emergency Management for serving as exercise evaluators during the tabletop.
