EM & Healthcare Facilities Seminar
On Tuesday, April 10th, 2018 the Office of Emergency Management held its first Joint Emergency Management and Health Care Facilities Seminar at Rust Library in Leesburg, Virginia. Twenty-eight representatives from assisted living facilities, nursing homes, dialysis centers, public health, and emergency management participated in a detailed discussion focused on emergency planning and processes; topics included the newly implemented Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) “Final Rule”, how to conduct a proper risk assessment, steps to train staff and clients, and how to conduct exercises based upon a facility’s emergency plan.

Additionally, the Seminar allowed participants to share and discuss emergency planning best practices, individual techniques, and concerns, as well as, the opportunity to network. The Office of Emergency Management (OEM) also extended the invitation for these facilities to have their emergency plans reviewed by OEM staff to receive enhancement recommendations as part of the OEM Emergency Plans Review Program.

OEM would like to thank our local health care facilities for their dedication and willingness to further their internal emergency preparedness efforts through collaboration with their local government agencies.
