Office of the Commissioner of the Revenue

The Commissioner of the Revenue is one of Loudoun's five constitutional officers. Specifically established by the Constitution of Virginia, these local officers are elected by Loudoun citizens.

As the chief tax assessing officer, the Commissioner’s primary duty under the Code of Virginia § 58.1-3103 is to ascertain and assess, at fair market value, all real and personal property in Loudoun. The Office of the Commissioner of the Revenue administers business licenses, land use assessment, a tax relief program for persons 65 or older or with disabilities, and also provides state income tax filing assistance. 

Annual Business tax filings are due by March 1st.
Notices of business tax filing requirements were issued recently for tax year 2018. Business owners should report 2017 gross receipts and pay BPOL taxes due by midnight on March 1st.

Owners of business equipment located in Loudoun County on January 1, 2018 must declare it for taxation to the Commissioner of the Revenue. The reporting of original cost, year of purchase and item description is due by midnight, March 1, 2018. Semi-annual bills for this equipment will be issued by Loudoun County Treasurer and will be due on June 5 and October 5, 2018.

Beginning in 2017, the Virginia Workers' Compensation Commission (VWCC) Insurance department has initiated a new process for verification of Workers' Compensation Insurance coverage (61-A).
