Youth Advisory Council

The Youth Advisory Council (YAC) is a student led organization comprised of highly motivated teens who reside in Loudoun County Virginia. As a leadership development, community service, and civic engagement program, YAC is mentored by Loudoun County Parks, Recreation and Community Services Youth Initiative and Teen Services Specialists.

With the core mission of "for teen, by teen programs", YAC has been innovating creative teen programming, providing a safe, fun, and engaging platform for the youth voice to be heard for over thirteen years. With each year YAC's umbrella of creative programs continues to grow, from humble beginnings with Loudoun's Battle of the Bands to a the first annual countywide young adult arts festival, Lights on Loudoun, coming in 2019!

YAC hosts four committees, each with elected chairs who report to the elected YAC Board Members. New YAC members are welcome to join any of the committees below based on operational needs.

Lights on Loudoun/Battle of the Bands: Plans, organizes, and implements Loudoun's Battle of the Bands and Lights on Loudoun.
Creative: Maintains the YAC youth run website LoudounTeens.org and plans, organizes, and implements public speaking events for teens.
Outreach: Markets the Youth Advisory Council and its events to the local community and manages the YAC social media accounts.
Community Service: Plans, organizes, and implements volunteer opportunities for YAC members throughout the academic year. Manages the Forward Turn YAC subcommittee, and Step Up YAC subcommittee.

YAC also serves as an official medium through which the ideas and opinions of Loudoun County's youth demographic may be presented to the community and its leaders. The elected YAC Board Members sit on the Board of Supervisor's Advisory Commission on Youth (ACOY) ensuring that the youth voice is heard by Loudoun's elected officials.

The Youth Advisory Council is an extremely competitive program with limited space based on current district representation. YAC strives to maintain a minimum of four student representatives from each school to ensure that a each district is appropriately represented and that the county's broad spectrum of diversity is recognized. YAC maintains an online application system that is processed on a rolling basis.
